These days however, due to our over usage and dependence on communication technology, we can often feel every bit as distracted and sapped of energy in the countryside. And yet, it all amounts to people who are just doing the best they can to complete their daily tasks and get safely to the end of their day. But it can sometimes feel like an empty, tiring and imprisoning day, that leaves little time or energy for real and meaningful living” — David Staunton from ‘Green in the Blue’.
About this workshop

 

Apart from his love, interest and commitment to Ecopsychology, David Staunton has a life-long fascination with architecture, planning and the built-environment. This combination of what may at first seem incongruous is actually what inspires David to explore further our living conditions and question why we live how we live in our towns and cities, questions that many of us may take as for granted.

 

This workshop will introduce you to and discuss topics in the group such as;

  • Our awareness of the strains of town and city living.
  • An exploration of suggested solutions and methods of managing our lives in urban areas.
  • How to improve our self-care, wellness and increase our resilience.
  • An exploration of our relationship with nature – and how it can help us.

Attending the Ecotherapy Hedge School

 

Venue

The original Ecotherapy Hedge School is situated in the secluded and beautiful hills of southwest county Dublin but most workshops are facilitated in the great expanse of the Phoenix Park.

 

What to bring

Check the weather and dress accordingly – ‘it’s not a fashion show’ so wear layers of whatever you feel comfortable in. The Hedge School is situated to enjoy the sun so you may need sun cream, cap, or sunglasses. Whilst there is some shelter available, we are open to the elements as we are outdoors so wear comfortable walking footwear in the knowledge that we may be walking in some mud if it has been wet and through long grass etc. Bring a light lunch/snack and plenty of water for your picnic break. If you like to journal, make diary entries, take notes or sketch, feel free to bring along your writing or creative material. Most important of all – bring yourself as you are.

10.45 Group assembly, registration, health and safety check.
11..00 Welcome hot/cold drinks and morning snacks.
11.15 Group walks together to the Ecotherapy Hedge School (c20min walk). Mindful check in with participants, group guidelines and workshop outline. Interactive workshop discussion by David Staunton. Interactive workshop ecotherapy exercise. Opportunity for Journaling/Individual Reflection. Group Reflection including Q and A. Picnic Break.

The Walk Inniú Ecotherapy Hedge School is open to all adults over the age of 18. However, given that the Hedge School is deliberately sited to be part of the natural environment, it is accessed over rough pathways and/or farmland. Our apologies to those of you who may have mobility issues and therefore would find access unsuitable, however please contact us as we do have various approved routes which may be more suitable to your needs.
It is recommended that you attend an ‘Introduction to Ecotherapy and Ecopsychology Workshop’ before ‘The Madness of Towns and Cities’ to ensure you have a basic grounding in the approach to gain maximum learning and understanding.
